OraMD is the only gum care product that I recommend. I did so because it is 100% natural and when used correctly, with the information in my book on preventive dental care, Healthy Teeth - Healthy Body, and with the support of your dentist/dental hygienist, OraMD will in most cases, help heal gum disease and help restore optimal oral health.
As a toothpaste, the manufacturer recommends that you brush at least twice a day with 1-2 drops on your toothbrush. When used for bad breath, put 1-2 drops on your tongue and move it around your entire mouth, effectively killing odor causing bacteria. As a mouthwash, put 1-2 drops in 2 ounces of water and rinse and gargle, then spit it out the residue. It is extremely effective against chronic bad breath and leaves a surprisingly clean, fresh feeling in your mouth.
I use OraMD in my own oral hygiene program but, under certain conditions, I also use something more abrasive. For example, if I can't brush after every meal I will use baking soda to brush, as it will help dislodge the plaque that will begin to form after missing a brushing. Then after rinsing I follow up by brushing with OraMD.
Everyone's oral health status is unique and many will find it enough to use OraMD as a toothpaste to help heal and prevent gum disease. However, there will be those whose gum disease has advanced to the point where they have developed gum pockets beyond the depth that can be reached by brushing alone.
If you have established, from your dentists evaluation of your gum health, that the depth of your gum pockets is more than 2-3mm, you will also need to add flossing to your hygiene program. If pockets exceed 4mm you will need to add a water irrigating device and possibly an oral irrigating syringe.
The Healthy Teeth book will explain all of this and provide the information you will need to know about which tools and products to use, when, why, and how to use them. The book will also explain how to do an oral self-evaluation. More importantly, my book will explain the importance achieving and maintaining oral health and how poor oral health can have a devastating effect on your immune system, your overall health, life-expectancy and quality of life.
